During the international show in St. Tropez – Ramatuelle (FRA), offspring of VDL stallions once again demonstrated their exceptional qualities. Multiple victories and podium places were secured at both CSI5* and CSI2* level, once again highlighting the influence of VDL breeding on the highest level of show jumping.
In the Global Champions League Individual Competition (1.60m), Elysium, the successful son of Zirocco Blue, jumped to an excellent second place under the German top rider Hans-Dieter Dreher. The pair rode clear and clocked a strong time of 67.86 seconds, securing a podium place amongst the world’s elite. M. Tummes is the breeder of this highly successful son of Zirocco Blue.
A VDL offspring also made its mark in the first team competition of the Global Champions League. VDL Kelton, a son of Bubalu, finished in an impressive third place in the 1.60m class with Belgian rider Annelies Vorsselmans. The KWPN horse, bred by VDL Stud & Y. Walda from Bears, rode clear and once again confirmed his qualities at the highest level.
Quatro, a son of Goodyear, secured victory in a 1.40m class at the CSI5*. Ridden by British rider David Harland, the Goodyear son – bred by N. Wood – proved unbeatable with a clear round and a time of 57.41 seconds.
VDL offspring were also very much in the spotlight during the CSI2* event. In the 1.50m class, Megalon K, a son of Etoulon, claimed victory. Ridden by Irish rider Ciaran Nallon, the pair remained double clear and were convincingly the best with a jump-off time of 34.77 seconds. He was bred by A.V. Kollenburg from Best.
In the same class, Jesther, a descendant of Cardento, finished in a strong fourth place with Maikel van der Vleuten after two clear rounds. Jesther was bred by the Moerings family.
In the CSI2 Grand Prix (1.45m)*, Zirocco Blue enjoyed further success. His daughter Oryzon van het Schaeck, ridden by the American rider Zayna Rizvi, jumped to an impressive second place. Perry de Winter is the mare’s breeder.
In addition, Quatro secured another top-10 finish with an eighth place in this Grand Prix, underlining the son of Goodyear’s excellent form throughout the competition.
Grand Slam VDL, a son of Cardento, also made his mark in the 1.45m ranking class. Ridden by Jur Vrieling, the BWP horse bred by Frans Kenis finished in a creditable fourth place.
The competition concluded with the prestigious Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Saint-Tropez (1.60m). Here, Hipster SV, a son of Corporal, jumped to a strong seventh place with Belgian rider Olivier Philippaerts amidst an extremely competitive field. C. & J. Ohlsson are the breeders of this grey son of Corporal.
With victories, podium finishes and numerous top placings at the highest international level, the VDL stallions have once again confirmed their status as suppliers of modern sport horses that excel in show jumping worldwide.
