The VDL stallions and their offspring enjoyed an outstanding weekend at the CSI2* in Valkenswaard. With victories for Grand Slam and Incanto VDL, complemented by several top placings for VDL offspring, the influence of VDL breeding was once again clearly evident.
In the 1.45m main class, it was Grand Slam (by Cardento) who, under Jur Vrieling, jumped his way to victory in impressive fashion. The stallion, bred by Frans Kenis from Brecht (BEL), remained clear in both rounds and clocked the fastest jump-off time of 38.33 seconds, securing the top prize of €7,050.
Incanto VDL also added a victory to an impressive weekend. He demonstrated his quality by convincingly winning the class. Incanto VDL, bred by Gebr. Lohuis, won the 2* 1.45m Grand Prix with Yuri Mansur. Earlier in the day, the pair had also finished in 4th place.
In addition, several VDL offspring also secured prize-winning placings. Branttastisch HDH (by Brantzau), ridden by Maikel van der Vleuten, finished in an impressive fifth place on Saturday with two clear rounds. The Brantzau son was bred by Edgar Langen.
Novacific Eickenrode (by Baltic), ridden by Hessel Hoekstra, put in a neat, fast round on Sunday and finished fourth. The Baltic daughter was bred by J. & A.E.A van der Waaij and had also finished sixth earlier in the week. Just above her in the rankings was another Baltic offspring, namely Lehman. The Baltic son, bred by A. Schouten, put in a fast round with Enrico van Manen and secured third place. They had also secured a fine seventh place on Saturday.
The top ten on Saturday was rounded off by Oscar-A (by Harley) with the Egyptian rider Sameh El Dahan. After a clear first round, the pair chose not to ride the jump-off, resulting in a ninth-place finish.
