The $200,000 four-star Grand Prix of Ocala was won by Daniel Coyle on Saturday evening. The Irishman triumphed with Farrel (by Cardento), bred by VDL Stud. Farrel VDL is out of the Stakkato mare Becherry VDL, who, in addition to Farrel, she has produced four other horses that compete at 1.40m level or higher.
On the other side of the world, VDL offspring were also in the spotlight. In the Hong Kong Grand Prix, Johan-Sebastian Gulliksen rode his Equine America Harwich VDL (by Arezzo VDL) to an excellent third place. Harwich VDL is a son of Arezzo, bred from the Darco mare Alba—dam of, among others, the 1.60m horse Jourdain VDL.
A striking detail: both Grand Prix horses were sold as young talents during the WEF Sport Horse Auction, which will take place again this year on 26 February in Wellington. A strong testament to the quality that this auction has been delivering for years.
